Memorial Day Weekend: Did you rock out?
It was nice to have a 3 day weekend, and I felt like playing something new. So I decided to rent Guitar Hero: Metallica. I've been wanting to rent this to see if it would be worth buying. I didn't want to pick this one up if most of the songs were more hard than fun, like some of the really hard ones in past Guitar Hero games. My brother in-law and I played this two days straight and pretty much finished it on expert. In the end there were 5-10 songs we skipped since we were trying to do as much on expert as we could. Unlike other Guitar Hero games, this is the first I got an achievement for completing the game on expert. Past games only give you this if you finish every song on that difficulty. This one only needed you to get through all the venues and finish the final song.
This game has a pretty good song list, a lot of Metallica classics and lots of other music. This game definitely captures the feeling of a live concert a lot better than other Guitar Hero games. The band actually interacted with the crowd like they would at a real show. All the venues are very cool, and some are right from their tours. You can also make a band that's sort of an opening act for Metallica. So at times you'll play as this band and play the non-Metallica music, then play as Metallica and play their songs. It's sort of a cool way to play the game.
This game looks and sounds awesome! The graphics were a little improved over GH: World Tour. The characters looked really good, Lars is a little scary how good his character looks. Most the extra features this game has, like character creation, is pretty much the same as GH: World Tour. One nice thing is that it seems like this game is less picky of how exact you hit the hammer ons and pull offs. Some songs seemed easier then they looked. They also have some songs from past games that work a lot better in this one and are more fun. In the end we didn't finish every song, but we were able to complete at least 90% of the game. I do think this would be a fun one to have, if I find it for a good used price. But since I completed most of it, I'm not worried about getting it anytime soon.
