Less then Meets the Eye

I usually stay away from games based on movies, but I got in such a Transformers mood after I saw the movie I had to rent the game. And I am once again reminded why I don't usually play movie games. It started out pretty good. The Transformers and transformation effects are pretty cool looking. The world graphics are simpler, some stuff has almost no detail. But it runs smooth. The sound volumes are a little weird and you can't control them much. But the voice acting is from the movie, sometimes it's annoying though. The game is fun at first, it's a mix of a 3rd person action game and a driving game. You fight the decepticons and can drive around to different mission starting points. They also made sure you have to drive a lot, this sucks on some missions since most the handling isn't that great. At first when you are the crappy Camaro Bumblebee the driving is pretty good and fun. But the rest of the vehicles go down hill from here. Now as you play the game you sort of follow along with the movie story line. But plenty is changed, mainly dialog that is cheesy, and you do a lot more stuff, in the form of stupid missions the will make you mad, than they did in the movie. I would have to say the first few missions where pretty fun. It's cool to drive and then transform whenever you want to fight stuff. And there is plenty of area to explore and lots of dumb side-missions. I almost forgot, the environments are completely destroyable. This is cool until you realize it's a little ridiculous at times. when you are in vehicle form you apparently become a bulldozer. You can drive through pretty much anything. And I thought you would have to be sort of sneaky and not transform around people, but you end up fighting in the middle of the city. Pretty much anything you touch gets damaged or destroyed. But this also means most things can become a weapon. In the end I probably shouldn't have wasted my money renting this, but I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. Transformers still rule though!
