Final Comment: Suikoden Tactics
Suikoden Tactics was a pretty fun tactical RPG with some interesting differences from other tactical RPGs. For the most part it plays like any other RPG in the genre. You move each character around a grid and perform an action each turn. One thing this game has is the ability to change the element on the ground. This can have advantages and disadvantages for each character. Each character is assigned an element and things like equipment can change the element. If you have a character stand on a spot with their element a couple of things happen. Their attack and defense are raised and every turn they stand on their element they get healed a little. If they stand on an element that is opposite theirs, then the opposite effects happen. This also effects enemies so you can try to use this to your advantage. You can also use items or spells to change the element. Also there are skills that can be learned and certain moves based on the element or what they have equipped. The downside to this system is that you can't keep abilities if you change this. That's the nice thing about games with "job" systems, you can learn and mix and match skills. You also get experience for almost every action you perform. One interesting thing that I haven't seen before is that if your attack misses, you still get experience. Also if you lose a battle that you gained a bunch of levels and experience in, you can retry the battle and keep those things. One thing that I didn't like is that you can lose some characters if they run out of HP in battle. There are storyline characters that just leave the battle if they die, but then you have extra characters that you got in the storyline that are completely gone if they die. And there isn't really an easy way to know which are which until they die, besides the main characters of the game.
The story of the game wasn't too bad, but I think it could have had more to it. There were some areas where I thought it would go that direction, then something would happen and that area would be cut off. Because of this, it was a shorter game than I was expecting, and it had a mediocre ending. I probably would have finished it quicker if I didn't have to spend a lot of time raising money for new equipment and weapon upgrades. I think it was a quicker game since it's sort of a spin off of the Suikoden series. Despite it's failings I still enjoyed it. If you don't have anything else to play and want to play a fun quick tactical RPG, then I would recommend this one. Also one weird things is the main character ages a bit in the story and the artwork for him changes and looks older after the change. BUt they use the same voice for him the whole game. It just seemed strange to me since his voice doesn't seem to match what you would expect it to be.
